Hi, I'm Felicity πŸ‘‹

I fix infrastructure for a living and, most weekends, I'm covered in either chalk dust or motor oil. Here's a bit more about the human behind the deploy logs.

How I got here

I didn't set out to work in DevOps β€” I fell into it. My first job out of school was general IT support, and I was the person who got handed anything nobody else wanted to touch. One of those things was a deploy process that involved someone manually copying files over FTP at 11pm on a Thursday. I automated it mostly out of self-preservation, and I was hooked. What keeps me in this field isn't the tools, it's the feeling of fixing something so well that nobody has to think about it again. There's a quiet kind of satisfaction in a system that just works β€” no midnight pages, no "who touched prod," no one holding their breath during a release.

"I'd rather spend a week automating something boring than spend the next two years doing it by hand."

Outside of the day job, I'm pretty easy to find β€” usually at a climbing gym, in a garage with a motorcycle in pieces, or on a couch with a book I'm three months behind on.
